G2 Axle and Gear Dana 35 4.88 Ring and Pinion Set

The ring and pinion sets that are manufactured by G2 Axle and Gear have been designed for today’s most grueling applications.  They have been engineered to handle tires that are massive as well as engines that are high performance.  These gears have been made with the highest quality materials and using the very latest in technology and the result is a ring and pinion set that is quietly strong.

Features at a Glance

·         This ring and pinion set comes with  limited warranty that is good for a lifetime

·         This set is double lapped as well as double shot peened

·         This ring and pinion set has been made to both meet and exceed the O.E. specifications

·         Made from 8620 steel that has been computer heat treated to ensure that it has a long life

·         Meant for use with a carrier that is 3.54 and up

·         Meant for use with a Dana 35 axle

Now, as far as the Dana 35 axle goes:

This is an axle made for vehicles that is made by the Dana Corp.  Its production began in 1985 which was when Dana bought the axle tooling equipment from American Motors.  When it first began production by AMC in 1962, this axle was called the AMC-15.  Since Dana bought the rights to it, they have upgraded it.  They have also made variations of it…most notably the Independent Front Suspension and the Twin Traction Beam axle for the front.

It is important to remember that when you are going to install a new ring and pinion set, you will also need the installation kit which is sold separately.

Installation Kit by G2 Axle and Gear

This is an installation kit for the ring and pinion and a Dana 35 axle.  It includes the carrier bearings, 10 cover bolts, the tail bearing, 10 ring gear bolts, the head bearing, a 26 spline pinion, he ring gear bolts, a cover gasket, the pinion nut, the pinion shims, the pinion seal, a crush sleeve and the carrier shims.

Keep in mind that this is sold as a kit and separately from the ring and pinion set.

G2 Axle and Gear makes these installation kits that have everything in them that you will need in order to safely and properly install your new ring and pinion set.  The installation kit includes top of the line components such as the Timken bearings, shims, ring gear bolts and even a seal for the pinion.

This is a project that anyone can undertake if you have a basic knowledge of vehicles and their parts.  If this is not you then please do not attempt this installation yourself.  Find someone who is qualified to do it so that it will be done safely and correctly.

Pinions and ring gears are used to make the axles and wheels spin backwards and forwards.  Their most often seen use is in vehicles where they are utilized to enhance the performance of the drive train while also providing more power to each of the wheels.

A set like this will come with a grooved ring that is connected to the axle between the rear wheels of your rig while the grooved pinion will connect to the actual drive shaft.  Any rig that is equipped with 4 Wheel Drive and even some of the older 2 Wheel Drive vehicles will come with these components.  However, when you want to increase the performance of your rig you can always get these sets that have a higher ratio for the gears.

The ring and the pinion work as a team in order to make torque as soon as the driver shifts the power to the drive wheels.  When the drive shaft spins, so does the pinion and then the ring and correspondingly, the wheels will also spin.  When you want more power to go to the wheels and more force to be created with ever spin then you need to get a ring and pinion set that has a higher ratio.  It is important to get them with the correct ratios so that they will work properly.
